Python Stickers, revisited

Posted by Jeff August 15, 2006

Remember the Nod and Python? Well, I’ve been emailing and bothering various Python folks. I’ve learned:

  • There is an official python store at CafePress. It’s hard to find, called”pydotorg”.
  • Stickers are now available! $3.49
  • There are T-shirts, hats, mugs, etc. The shirts on the official store are awfully expensive, I think - the least expensive is $23, before shipping.

Goodstorm is a new site with much lower base prices than CafePress. I’ve created a store there. Without any markup, the python logo shirt is $8.40 for a men’s fitted T.

I’ll be getting a laptop sticker and a couple t-shirts. So if you see a bearded geek around Harvard/Porter square with a python sticker, say Hi :)

Cheap is good, but I’d be willing to spend extra for a comfy t-shirt. The reddit guys went with American Apparel (http://americanapparel.net/) and their t-shirts feel great.

This would require someone ordering a run of t-shirts, but well worth it if others are interested.

Great! But which ones are the stickers for laptops?

Post a photo when you get the shirt. Curious to see how it comes out.

Just ordered some stickers for my laptop!

incubus - the round one… the rectangle is a bumpersticker.

mrevelle - I’m not sure what kind of shirts Goodstorm carries. I’ve written to ask. The problem with a “run” of shirts is the capital outlay, and then inventory. Complicated logistics. Goodstorm is digital printing… betcha CafePress is too. Goodstorm has an FAQ with shirt base prices, I haven’t found something similar for CafePress. My shirt’s on order, can’t comment firsthand on quality until I’ve gotten it. I wouldn’t assume that inexpensive==low quality, or expensive==very good quality… we’ll see. Cafepress feels overpriced, IMHO. I imagine as GoodStorm nibbles at CafePress that CP’s prices will come down and there will be quality comparisons.

    Thanks.
Yeah, I would be interested in reading your “review” of the t-shirt once you get it. I bet it’s gonna be good quality. I’m all for competition as well.

OK guys - in the interests of Science I’ve ordered equivalent shirts from CafePress and GoodStorm. The Great TShirt Smackdown is on. More T’s - Elana will be thrilled :) For each I’ll track–
    - Shirt link, description
    - TotalCost, profit, base price
    - Shipping Cost
    - Ship Time
    - Shirt weight, in oz. by digital scale
    - Subjective quality/photos

Anything else? The real test would be a longitudinal study after a couple years of laundry..

Hi, Just a quick note.. I set up the cafepress site about a year ago and it needs a small payment to run so some of the margin on the T-Shirts is used to pay for the site.. Hopefully when it gets busy it will generate a little extra revenue that can go to the PSF (thats where it’s been promised to go). Good luck with the test!!
