25 Free gigs

Posted by Jeff September 21, 2006

Vandyll.net describes it well–

So, here’s the deal. AMD is offering 25gigs of online storage for free.
The catch? With the free account, you are limited to 1gig of download
per month from your files. If you want to download the whole 25gigs at
once, you’ll need to upgrade and pay $9.95/month.

Also keep in mind that this is in Beta. There is some slow server response time in some cases, and they are getting hammered with uploads at the moment.

The plus side is that their support is very responsive and pretty straight forward with their responses.

Thanks for the heads-up. Are you using the MediaVault software to auto-synch, or doing it by hand?

(Shame the s/w is Windows only.. I need to figure out a photo backup solution for Elana’s Macbook. JungleDisk+S3 sounds interesting.

I am still using the web interface. It can be a pain in the butt sometimes, but I had heard some not so good things about the software. But, current rumor says that it works better now, so maybe I’ll see this weekend.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Jerry- great! What about the 25MB limit on files on the free plan, is that enforced using the backup software? 25MB seems like an awfully arbitrary limit - what if I have a thanksgiving video I want to store..

Having web UI is a nice backup for browsing/restoring in case of disaster, or just needing access from another machine - but automated backup is where it’s at.
